Silene van Waveren

Silene van Waveren (Utrecht, 1958) is ceramic art designer in Nieuwegein. She explains her creative urge from the fact that from early childhood onwards she loved pottering, drawing and modelling. Later she was educated at the Fashion Academy Rundschau in Amsterdam and evening classes at the “School voor Beeldende Kunsten” in Utrecht. Creativity also played an important role in her career at “Eska Tijdschriften”, “Kluwer” and later “VNU Tijdschriften”. During a period of 20 years she was editor at the magazine Marion, the encyclopaedia “Het Komplete Handwerken” and “Handwerken zonder Grenzen”. Finally she realised her dream and started as an independent plastic artist. Silene is a “dreamer” and is inspired by her surroundings. Sensitivity is important while designing and executing commissions of private persons and companies. With sensitivity as a starting point her hands set to work and perform the task according to her own interpretation. She executed several commissions such as relation presents, meant for Canada, Zimbabwe, Spain and Japan. Silene’s work knows different styles but doesn’t represent one single denomination. Yet there are some focus points by which she is inspired. For instance nature and fashion: extraordinary cloths in various fashion styles, accessories, catwalk ladies and frivolous figures in ceramics.
